"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)

This is a Kenworth K270, known to people across the pond as the DAF LF. It’s built by someone you might be familiar with.
Yep. Leyland. The offshoot of the truck division of British Leyland. And, in India, a company called Ashok Leyland still exists, and they even still use the old BL logo, who make a rebadged Nissan NV called the Stile.

Do they build the whole truck at Leyland or just the cab?
Also I don’t get why they don’t use the bigger and nicer looking CF:
Which I think to be more fitting for America, size wise.

It uses Cummins engines, but the cab and chassis are built by Leyland. And, I agree, the CF would be a little better for North America.

From what a Cummins engineer once told me the European spec LFs also use a Cummins designed engine, the B4.5 4-cylinder and B6.7 6-cylinder to be precise.

Interestingly, European market LFs are supplied from what used to be a Leyland plant in (as it happens and logically) Leyland.

If I recall DAF are the last European maker using Cummins engines and then only in their smaller models.

Yes, Volvo/Renault, MAN, Scania, Iveco(FPT) and Mercedes-Benz Trucks all have their own engine designs, as far as I know. DAF also has an engine design facility, though they only use it to develop larger engines, for the CF and XF.

Some American models use DAF designed engines but they’re badged Paccar to avoid upsetting their deeply conservative buyers.

Yeah, wouldn’t want to be caught running one of those puny Dutch engines, haha.
When I was at the DAF engine development facility they indeed had some kind of Kenworth running an EURO-6 engine.
